Participants from the Eastern European and Central Asian countries require a visa to enter Latvia (with some exceptions depending on the type of passport).

Since Latvia is a member of the Schengen area, citizens from the following countries do not require a visa to enter Latvia: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and , Liechtenstein.


For those participants requiring a visa to enter Latvia.

The participants will be responsible for their own visas and are required to have a valid passport. Applications for visas should be made to an Embassy or Consulate of the Republic of Latvia or the Embassy of other EU member state that represents Latvia in the respective country;


Applicants must personally submit visa applications together with all necessary documents to the Embassy of Latvia or Consulate covering their place of residence. The visa application procedure might differ slightly in each country. However, the key requirements are the following:


1. Passport or other travel document with a period of validity extending at least three months past that of the visa, containing at least two blank pages for affixing visas, and issued within the previous ten years;

2. Visa application form completed and signed by the applicant;

3. One (1) color photo (35mm x 45mm);

4. Travel medical insurance policy valid for the whole Schengen area and covering the entire period of the foreigner's intended visit in the Schengen area (see section "Travel medical insurance");

5. Payment or confirmation of the payment of visa application fee (see section "Visa application fees");


When applying for a Schengen visa, the applicant also submits:

-  documents indicating the purpose of the journey;

-  documents in relation to accommodation, or proof of sufficient means to cover his  accommodation;

-  documents indicating that the applicant possesses sufficient means of subsistence both for the duration of the intended stay and for the return to his country of origin or residence;

-  information enabling an assessment of the applicant's intention to leave the territory of the member state before the expiry of the visa applied for.


Please, note that some Embassies might ask for the ticket booking.


Participants that require a visa to enter Latvia are advised to start visa obtaining procedure a minimum of 3 months in advance, i.e. by 1 March 2015 at the latest. Please, contact the Embassy of Latvia in your country or the EU Member State Embassy that covers/assists Latvia in your country or contact the Embassy of Latvia in another country as to get the necessary information and guidance for obtaining your visa as soon as possible.
